- Porte Saint-Martin. L’Arc fut construit pour honorer les victoires de Franche-Comté et sur le Rhin, et est construit à l’emplacement de l’ancienne Enceinte Charles V. Elle est construite durant la Guerre de Cent Ans sur la rive droite pour protéger les faubourgs parisiens (Temple, Saint-Paul, etc.). A l’est, le Chastel Saint-Antoine est construit pour défendre Paris des Anglais – et le Roi des parisiens. Les parisiens l’appelleront Bastide Saint-Antoine puis la Bastille.
- Porte Saint-Martin. The Arc was built to honour Louis XIV’s victories in Franche-Comté and on the Rhine, and is located at the site of the ancient Wall of Charles V. It was Built on the right bank during the Hundred Year’s War to protect Paris suburbs (today’s Marais: Faubourgs du Temple, Saint-Paul, etc.). On the east, the Chastel (castle) Saint-Antoine is built to defend Paris from the English - and King Charles V from Parisians. The Parisians called it Bastide Saint-Antoine, and later la Bastille.
